So Frustrating !

So the grandkids decided they were spending the night last night. At about 7pm the oldest one says. "oh yeah..I don't have an outfit here to wear to school tomorrow" I think "no problem" and head up to the sewing room.

The other day Honey and I were thrift store browsing and I found this adorable men's shirt with sea shells and sand dollars print fabric. It was too small for Honey but I bought it anyway, thinking I'd turn the shirt into a skirt for myself. Instead I used it last night for DGD #1 and her new outfit.

We turned the shirt into a skirt, then took a left over piece of fabric and used that to make a sea shell applique on a white Tee and used another left over piece for a matching headband. She went to school happy as can be today in her brand new outfit....but I forgot to take PICS !! Someone shoot me now please LOL

Plastic Bag Holder/Dispenser

If your house is anything like mine there is always an over abundance of plastic bags lying around. You want to save them, you use them, but sometimes it's like they breed in the wee hours of the night and you end up with a million of those little buggers. Well I got sick of looking at a plastic bag full of plastic bags hanging on the laundry room door and finally did something about it !

I upcycled those jeans of my hubby's yesterday into a cool apron and I had both legs left over and wondered what in the world I could do with them...other than cut them up and using them for appliques or patches. Then it hit me !! A light bulb moment ! I'd make those legs into plastic bag holders/dispensers. It would look a lot better than just having a cluster of bags on the back of the door no matter how badly I failed at this first try project.

It really didn't come out badly at all :) I cut the leg open along the seam and cut off the bottom hem and then evened it all out. Ran all edges thru the serger so nothing frayed later and tossed it on the embroidery machine to embellish it a bit. Once the embroidery was done I made a casing at the top and bottom for elastic, fed the elastic thru, and then stitched the side seam back up. Then I just took a little bit of webbing and made a handle. Voila, cute little plastic bag holder out of the leg of a pair of jeans !

Upcycled Denim Apron

Armed with a pair of scissors, sewing machine, a bit of trim and some rhinestone bling I set out to turn a pair of hubby's jeans that didn't fit into something usable :) The finished product ? An adorable denim craft apron :)



This really only took about 30 minutes from start to finish and it's a fun little project you can even do with the kids. If anyone is interested in a tutorial for this let me know and I'll whip one up :)
